Summary

What the sources describe

Checked 2026-09-25

Mayo Clinic’s public new-employee pages explain what hires do before day one, on day one and in their first three months. They are arrival and administration guidance, not clinical training.

Before start
  • Hires complete assigned pre-start tasks with a preboarding coordinator or HR assistant in an online system. S11
  • Hires are asked to have their badge photo taken before the start date; many sites prefer this at the same visit as the post-offer assessment. S11
  • If the manager has not been in touch by noon on the Friday before the start, the hire is told to use the supervisor contact in the offer letter or call HR. S11
First day
  • Most hybrid and on-site staff attend on-site orientation on day one, but only once they have been cleared to start; a site-specific email arrives a week before. S11
First months
  • Required online training modules must be completed within 30 days of the start date; benefits enrolment is due within 31 days. S12
  • The first-three-months page tells hires it often takes a full year to become independently productive in a new job. S12

Absence here does not mean Mayo Clinic lacks it; the reviewed sources simply do not say.

  • Clinical competency or credentialing processes
  • Role-specific training for clinical staff
  • How managers are expected to support hires after day one

WeekOne adaptation

What to borrow, and confirm locally

  • Tell hires what to do if they have not heard from their manager by a set time before the start.
  • Make “cleared to start” an explicit dependency for orientation and restricted duties.
  • Put the real deadlines for your own required training in the plan, with the owner who can confirm them.

These are our suggestions, not Mayo Clinic’s practice. Do not copy company-specific dates, tools or rules without checking they fit your organisation.
