Summary

What the sources describe

Checked 2026-09-25

Atlassian’s 2021 guide describes the remote onboarding program it built after the pandemic and its “Team Anywhere” policy. Atlassian reports that it had remotely onboarded 48% of its employees over the previous 18 months.

Before start
  • After accepting an offer, hires receive automated pre-boarding emails, each with a small set of tasks, so the first day is not spent on admin. S04
  • People teams add laptop delivery details to a shared sheet 10 days before the start; vendors then tag, package and ship the laptop directly. S04
First day
  • “Atlassian Welcome” is a 1.5-day virtual orientation run by full-time facilitators in four regional hubs, with group sessions and smaller breakout rooms. S04
First weeks
  • Eight step-by-step guides in a Confluence space cover topics such as technology, pay and benefits, learning, travel and team management. S04
First months
  • Each starter gets a Trello board with resources and to-dos for the first 30, 60 and 90 days, and the board is sent to their manager automatically. S04
  • Atlassian reports that 92% of the 2,400+ hires in the program’s first year said in its post-onboarding survey that they felt engaged, informed and connected. S04

WeekOne adaptation

What to borrow, and confirm locally

  • Break pre-start admin into a few small batches so day one is for people and context.
  • Give each hire a 30/60/90-day plan and make sure their manager has the same view.
  • Set a fixed lead time (Atlassian uses 10 days) for equipment details to reach whoever ships it.

These are our suggestions, not Atlassian’s practice. Do not copy company-specific dates, tools or rules without checking they fit your organisation.
